We Have Met the Enemy and He is Us

by Staff Writer

Cartoonist Walt Kelly’s best-known creation, the possum called Pogo, said that more than three decades ago. He was referring to the powers-that-be in the early 1970s, and their intrusive nature regarding American’s privacy.

Then, as now, that quote has been used to highlight the dismal performance, and/or pernicious habits of whichever leaders happen to be holding the reins of our nation.

When I say, we have met the enemy and he is us, I refer to myself, and every other American old enough to vote. We can’t blame the Republicans and Democrats for corruption, mismanagement and kowtowing to the collective cadre of political power brokers who pull their strings.

They can’t help themselves. They’re just swimming in the murky waters provided them by their parties. I’m sure some must occasionally gag on the crap they have to swallow just to stay in office.

No. It’s not their fault. It IS their responsibility to do something about it. But they either can’t or they won’t. Maybe it’s human nature. Maybe the battle’s too tough for any one of them. One thing I know for sure, it is not their destiny to live this way. It is our own fault for reelecting nothing but Republicans and Democrats over and over again. It is our obligation, as Americans, to do something about it.

As Shakespeare said, “The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars, but in ourselves if we are underlings.?

The time has come for The NEXT American Revolution!

Stop being an underling. It’s still your country. You still have the ultimate power. Free your Democratic or Republican politician from his or her party chains. Free them, and all of us, from the burden of their mendacity. Next Tuesday, VOTE for any qualified candidate NOT running under the Republican or Democrat banner. It is time for those banners to fly at half-staff for a while, so our nation’s flag can soar once more!
