My Cheerful Lack of Forgiveness

So the Catholic Church in Los Angeles settles with 508 victims of sexual abuse at the creepy hands and mouths of various priests over the years. At $660 million, apparently, it’s the biggest settlement yet by the evil and gigantic cult. You have to be gigantic to be able to afford that kind of green!

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the Catholic Church for the infinite suffering it has caused over time. Well. Yes I do. I just do not understand how 21st century humans can still swallow the giant load of crap they sell… to the point where they can afford to hand out $660 million in L.A., $157 million in Boston, $129 million in Portland and so on. That’s a lot of collection platesful.

I cannot think of a slimier betrayal… because there IS no slimier betrayal than priests sexually molesting their young.
Is there anything worse? Child molestation is really, really terrible… But to take that one step beyond to have it perpetrated by the self-proclaimed spiritual/religious authoritarian leader!!! C’mon. WHAT is worse than that???

I thank intellect every day that I am not crippled by religious fantasy. That means, among other things, I don’t have to forgive anybody if I don’t want to… or leave the judging to “god.” More cultish guilt trippage for the victims: Their religion requires that they “forgive” their molestors. Euw. How do think that’s working out. I already saw some of them weeping on television. Ahchoo… Ahmen… whatever. Off to the showers!
